Gentlemen of the Press

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to the official launch of the State of Osun Chapter of the Progressives’ Solidarity Forum (PSF)

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the citizens of Osun and all invited guests who has deemed it worthy to grace this special occasion with your presence despite other commitments, PSF will complement the new era of change in Osun. Your commitment to this occasion shows your special love for the PSF and I am humbled and remain ever grateful to you all and wish to thank you on behalf of PSF worldwide for this kind gesture.

The emergence of PSF started in 2012 as a progressive ideological think-tank and a socio-political organization comprising of Nigerian professionals in various fields of endeavours from all over the world. PSF is an organization with a transformational mission. Our fundamental mission, is to be the mouthpiece of a democratic ideology of true and egalitarian governance in Nigeria; hence our slogan….What’s in it for the people…

The Progressives Solidarity Forum (PSF) is a non-profit organisation and is a socio-civic caucus formed against the backdrop of apathy, passivity and the subjugation of the Nigerian electorate and the urgent need to robustly challenge the prevailing sub-human existence of the majority of Nigerians and the inability of the ruling class to take decisive steps to change the status quo; to publicly say no to the culture of impunity by some public office holders who have no regard for due process, rule of law and the pervasive lack of accountability in our various national institutions.

We are presently constituted of progressive minded, professionally competent and result driven Nigerians living in Nigeria and Diaspora, who have fashioned out constitutional objectives that promote probity and sanity in governance.

PSF is not a bedrock for activism but acts as a watchdog within the parent party –the All Progressives Congress (APC) in ensuring that APC presents alternative and credible government with human face whenever opportunity presents itself so that Nigerians will come to appreciate the full impact of progressive governance from national, state to local government levels.

We are working to ensure our structure comprises vibrant social entrepreneurs, politicians, local government Executive Committees, ward delegates and citizens with passion for developmental impacts with requisite core-competencies.

We are poised to promote charitable initiatives across all spheres of human endeavours that will benefit the community through self-help innovative projects, as listed below:

– Education/School Support Services
– Health Care
– Empowerment projects for in and out of School Youths
– Girl Child Education
– Vulnerable groups and Disabled Persons

Our diaspora structures are in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, The Nederlands, USA, Ireland and France. We have structure in 15 states in Nigeria and poised to the sustenance of democracy and the actualisation of progressive governance in Nigeria where security of life and property of all and the rule of law is guaranteed. We are tirelessly working towards ensuring a united country devoid of ethnic or religious intolerance. We yearn for a vibrant and prosperous Nigeria that we all can be proud of.

The agitation for a change of government and a change of direction for our dear country as propounded by PSF resonates to all corners of Nigeria and beyond. The resultant effect of this agitation for change has thankfully brought upon us a new dawn. A new era which has been ushered in with the victory of APC and our President-elect Muhammadu Buhari GCFR. Buhari, a man of proven integrity and widely known for his ruthless intolerance for corruption and its purveyors.

The combination of Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo at the Federal level and other Progressives like Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is truly a blessing to our country because in these two illustrious sons of Nigeria we have the combination of brains and brawn; vision and purpose; the political will and intellectual capacity to surmount the myriads of challenges facing our nation today.

With the Presidential inauguration new government of President Buhari comes the chance to look forward to what lies ahead. However, we must remember that the rot into which the PDP government has plunged the country has brought with it high expectation.

Even as we recognize our significant accomplishments in PSF, we acknowledge that there is still a great deal to be done. It is in view of this that we are establishing PSF State Chapters to complementing the governance of APC leaders at state levels. We are therefore looking forward to working in tandem with the government of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola by assisting with advice and policy formulation that will help its populist initiatives and further endear his government to the people of the State of Osun.

It is our collective resolve at PSF in both State and National levels to assist the new government in achieving its set goals therefore PSF has constituted a special strategy committee who are currently working on policy ideas that will assist the APC government by:

  • Bringing positive developments to our people and Creating a dynamic economy that will stand the test of time
  • Making basic infrastructures accessible and affordable to every Nigerian and creating gainful employment for our youths
  • Dealing with the scourge of corruption and its perpetrators by empowering the EFCC etc. and giving them autonomy
  • Securing lives and property of every Nigerian; making life not only bearable but worth living for every Nigerian, and

To ensure that this present new government outlasts and better the tenure of the PDP government in every facet of governance. The launch of PSF Osun is an historic event for many reasons. One of which is the arduous journey of PSF traceable to the state of Osun in 2014. In our quest for Change, we worked with Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in 2014 implementing Door-to-Door Campaigns during the gubernatorial election. We engaged in social, electronic and print media to support the campaigns of State of Osun in 2014.

We are confident that despite enormous challenges in the State of Osun, we at PSF identified with his Excellency, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s for his commitments at various sphere of developments, he has proven to be a true Progressive over time.

PSF also acknowledge the financial prudence of Ogbeni Aregbesola in ensuring that despite the blatant devilish act of the previous PDP government in maliciously starving the State of Osun of its Constitutional rights of monthly allocations from the Nigeria’s commonwealth which sadly culminated in the arrears of workers salary, his welfare programmes as enumerated above are not affected.

This has given us the confidence to safely declare that since the establishment of the State of Osun, the people of Osun have never had it so good.

The unusual governance of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola recorded successes that includes; amongst other culminated to:

  • An established a youth oriented programme tagged O’Yes designed to empower youth and addressing poverty alleviation and unemployment; engaging a minimum of 30,000 youths;
  • Trained over 5,000 youths empowered in ICT under the Osun Youths Empowerment Technology (OYESTECH),
  • 150 free computer tablets provided free to students beneficiaries of the (opon imo), an electronic learning tool preloaded with 17 subjects, 54 textbooks and past JAMB, WAEC AND NECO
  • Over N2.4 billion injected in the economy as allowances to OYES volunteers
  • 123 kilometres of waterways dredged to prevent and the185 km beautification of Asejire-Owena boundaries
  • 750,000 uniforms provided to school children and 3,000 recorded beneficiaries of tailors empowered,
  • Minimum of 11,000 children fed daily with an increase in the primary school funding grants from N7.4million to N424million

This is why PSF has been in the forefront in the clamour for a purposeful government with visionary leaders like Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who are in touch with the yearnings and aspirations of the populace for the delivery of the dividends of democracy to all Nigerians as opposed to just a few. During the Presidential Campaigns of General Muhammadu Buhari, PSF was a financial contributing partners to the Buhari Support Organisation and working with other groups as well as the BSO in Nigeria and proud to be associated with the election victory of Muhammadu Buhari as President. Since its formation, PSF has always been agitating for a government that is in tune with the yearnings and aspirations of the Nigerian people for the delivery of the dividends of democracy to all. We chose to align and work with APC right from its emergence as a mega party because we share the same progressive ideologies.

As a collective efforts to surmounting the challenges in the State, I wish to recommend that every citizen of the State of Osun should inculcate the culture of the three Ps (Prayer, Patience and Perseverance).

The Nigeria of my aspiration, a nation that is 99% corruption free, with bribery not eaten deep into her bones and marrows. A nation with a stable economy just like the carbon to carbon bond in diamond, like a chelate formed from polydentate ligand, a nation that does not depend solely on one source for all her revenue with capable officers in her financial sector. A nation where there’s no need for leaders to run around begging for help, indirectly turning her citizens to modern slaves. When will my aspiration come true?

The Nigeria that we don’t have to wait for every four years of a failed government to change the political melody all in the name of finding a remedy to our societal malady. A nation that a new government wouldn’t have to use half of the tenure to probe predecessor for the sake of recovering public funds, a nation where political personnel can be trusted, with them having no need to declare false assets all for the sake of gaining an office. A nation where our leaders need not be stoned at public gatherings as a result of frustration from the people, a nation where nobody would be above the Law, a nation where a common citizen is not sent to life imprisonment for stealing a goat, and a political personnel, after stealing billions, is granted state pardon and awarded a chieftaincy title.
I ask, my people, without any iota of comedy, when will an end come to this Tragedy?

The Nigeria of my aspiration, a nation where we don’t just count years every anniversary of independence, but instead celebrate great achievements made in those years. A nation that is terror free, without recording hundreds of casualties each day. A nation that need not celebrate Her independence under very heavy security due to fear of attacks. A nation where lives and properties are well secured, and citizens can rest on a pillow and sleep with their eyes shut. With my head dropped, I ask myself, when will this aspiration come true?

The Nigeria of my aspiration, a nation where citizens fulfil their promises as stated in the national pledge, where tax payment is paramount to every citizen. A nation where voting is not biased based on ethnic groups, religion or personal grudges, or based on which political party distributes the highest number of gifts, or which can attack the other better, but based on the ability, willingness and political mandate. A nation that will be well represented in world competitions, and be made proud. A nation that her national team wouldn’t regularly crash out of group stages in world football competitions, and representatives in athletics not always found guilty of being drug addicts. When will my aspiration come true?

A nation where citizens can drive a thousand miles without no hitch, a nation with stable power supply and good water. A nation with more than enough employment opportunities for the youths. A nation in which the universities can be rated among world’s best, not that filled with bed-bugs, damaged hostels, unconducive lecture rooms, and unfriendly or heartless lecturers. A nation where greed, selfishness, and protection of personal interest among students as well as lecturers will not be tolerated, a nation where we make our universities those to be proud of in the world. A nation where girls don’t dress nude all in the name of fashion, where boys don’t indulge in all sorts of anti-social acts all in the name of civilization, and a nation where people don’t commit atrocities all in the name of money. A nation where immorality among youths will not spread like Staphylococcus aureus.

The NIGERIA OF MY ASPIRATION, a nation where all compatriots rise to obey the call, where citizens serve their fatherland with love, strength and faith, where they work tirelessly to make sure that the labour of our heroes past will not be in vain, where citizens serve with all might. A nation bound with love regardless of religion, ethnic groups, political differences or personal grudges, a nation where peace reigns, where there’s freedom, and everyone lives in unity. A nation where we all have a common goal to make Her proud.

Now, with my head lifted, looking up to God, I ask, WHEN WILL THIS ASPIRATION COME TRUE?

Once again I wish to, on behalf of PSF worldwide, express our deepest appreciation to all invited guests and pray that you will all return back to your various destinations safely.

Long live PSF! Long Live APC!! Long Live Nigeria!!

PSF…What’s in it for the people
